1. Expect EARLY BIRDS. They're here and they stare. If they seem trustworthy let them shop early. They'll feel special and owe you a sale.

2. ADVERTISE everywhere possible. Place one paid ad in the largest local paper in town. Online advertising is mostly free...announce your sale to the world, might as well.

3. Price everything ahead of time. Set up as much as possible the night before. The more organized you are, the more money you make!

4. Have plenty of change and a secured place to hold your money. Start with $ 20 made up of two fives and ten ones. In a major city you can get away with charging from $ 1 up so there's no need for silver change. At the end of the day, don't forget to subtract the original $ 20 to figure profits.

5. Remember you are selling something you don't want anymore, SO SELL IT! Be negotiable, be flexible, get rid of it!

6. Be nice! Whether you are the giver or buyer, be nice to people. It's just easier that way.

7. Easy to read signs and good directions are the key to people finding your sale. Don't be shy, but PLEASE remove all signs at the end of the sale. Your neighbors will thank you. Not really, but they won't hate you as much.

8. Tools of the trade: masking tape (many uses), newspapers, and shopping bags to send people on their way.

9. Donate what doesn't sell to your favorite charity. Nothing finishes a garage sale more perfectly than a trip to your local charity drop-off.

10. Have friends stop by and bring you real good coffee.
